How I Got Rid Of Acne
As millions of teenagers, I have also suffered from acne problem. I used to have both whiteheads and blackheads. There was no over-the-counter product that I haven’t tried, but noting seemed to work. I was desperate. To make my problem even bigger, every time when I would see a whitehead, I used to pop it. It seemed like a good idea at the time, I would do anything, as long as there was no that ugly white pimple on my face. To pursue matter further, I tried to be ahead of my whitehead pimples so I would pop them out while they were in the blackhead phase.
I used to have lots of red dots all over my face. I used lots of makeup, which I find is an advantage of being a girl. If I was a guy, I would probably kill myself (kidding! ) if I had to come out and see people with all those red dots on my face. Anyway, I used to use some very good makeup that would give me excellent coverage. I couldn’t see a single red dot on my face. I was careful to buy good makeup, as once I tried some Cover Girl liquid foundation and all of a sudden got some ugly big pimples on my chin and neck. Once I stopped using that makeup those acne disappeared. I think that was the only case where actual makeup caused some acne to appear on my face.
At the time when I had acne (acne vulgaris) on my face, I used to wash my face often, scrub it almost every day hoping that oil from pimples will diminish. It would, but it would dry the rest of my face too. I was never big on using some creams on my face, as I couldn’t really choose which one was good for my skin. All those facial moisturizer would make my makeup go bad.
Well, to make long story short, one day my girlfriend told me that when she went camping she used Baby Wipes on her face and was really satisfied. I tried tons of product up to then, so I thought I could give a try to baby wipes. So I got myself package of Pampers Unscented Baby Wipes and hoped for the best. I used it in the evening before I would go to sleep. My skin actually reacted well to Pampers Baby Wipes, as they wouldn’t dry out my skin but rather make it normal, not too oily and not too dry.
Of course, I finally decided to go and see dermatologist. He was surprised that I didn’t have lots of scars on my face, and originally wanted to prescribe Accutane medication, which I refused, so I had to settle down for somethingwith less side effects called Minocycline. As per my dermatologist, Minocycline is antibiotic used to kill bacteria, which would help to get rid of my acne. As prescribed I used those antibiotics for two months along with total new cleansing daily regime:
Cleansing morning and night:
- La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel
Moisturizing morning and night:
- La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche Soothing Protective Cream
I was willing to go ahead with a treatment and with constant support of my boyfriend, I was not picking my pimples and decided to let it go for thosetwo months. It worked! Antibiotics in combination with good cleansing and moisturizing products and I was acne free within 2 months.
After the treatment, I tried a bit cheaper option for cleansing of my face, and Pampers Baby Wipes worked just perfect. I realized that my skin liked not being washed by water twice a day. I would use Baby wipes to clean my makeup and after that I would apply Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream. In the morning, I would just splash my face with water and apply Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer sPF 15 and then foundation (liquid foundation followed by pressed powder) along with the rest of the makeup.
I might add that the only side effect I ever noticed is increased oilness of my facial skin since using La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche Soothing Protective Cream. I guess when I went to see my dermatologist originally, my face must have looked very dry and dehydrated to him. For anyone interested in La Roche-Posay products visit: http://www.laroche-posay.com
What I’ve noticed was the fact that food had nothing to do with my acne problem. Coffee either, as I still consume 2-3 a day, as I used to. I must add that I drink water only these days, so that probably helped in keeping my skin well hydrated.Â
My advice would be that anyone who suffers from acne problem goes to visit a dermatologist, as that way one can only be sure that is getting a right treatment. I only described here what worked for me, but that may not be suitable for others, as everyone’s skin is different. By visiting a dermatologist, you can only gain a great skin and self-confidence. It is worth a try.
So, the good news is: I am acne free for the last five years. I get up in the morning and I don’t have to worry about hiding some pimple. I don’t spend time in front of a mirror looking for ugly blemishes, but rather enjoying my life knowing that acne are problem of the past. Present and future seem so much brighter, along with my self-confidence that I can go out on the beach without makeup. I was dreading those moments on the beach
when water will wash out my foundation and my skin can be exposed and everybody can see my pimples.Â
Well, no more. Do yourself a favour, go and see a dermatologist. There is nothing to lose, but pimples. I am sure, everybody wants to lose those. If you successfully treated pimples, write it down, let everybody know that you succeeded too, and give hope to millions that are still waiting for either to puberty to pass or a miracle - in my case, my miracle was my dermatologist.
